Academic schedule change survey - Secondary Schools

WMS / WHS Proposed Academic Schedules

The Warden School District is considering a change in the structure of academic schedules in the secondary school this coming year and would like to hear from the community regarding the options. The proposed options could affect current students in grades 5th-11th and seniors (12) attending another year. Please only complete one survey per person, even if you have more than one student in the secondary schools. The survey will close at 9pm, on April 13, 2021.

1. Traditional Schedule-Seven Period Day (7-50 minute classes):

Seven period day where students attend each class on a daily basis. All class periods start and end at the same time every day and meet at the same period in the sequence. Traditional Schedule would have to be implemented in grades 6-12, due to shared staff and teaching spaces.

2. 6+1 Schedule follows Traditional Schedule-Seven Period Day (7-50 minute classes):

This schedule will work within the seven-period framework already established at Warden High School. Students will have a built-in period to support credit recovery and completing courses. Students who are on track to graduate, and do not need the additional recovery time will take elective courses offered during this time. (Based upon a Board-approved reduction of high school credits to 24). 6+1 schedule would not have to be implemented in grades 6-8 (they could continue with the traditional schedule above).

3. Modified Block Schedule:

1/3/5/7 Monday/Friday Blocks (4-87 minute periods)
2/4/6/8 Tuesday/Thursday Blocks (4-87 minute periods)
1/2/3/4/5/6/7 Wednesday (7-50 minute periods)

Eight period schedule that supports four periods in a block for four days per week and seven periods (in a traditional schedule), one day per week.
